U.S. citizens holding ordinary passports can travel to Turkey without a visa for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Turkey removed the visa requirement for ordinary U.S. passport holders effective January 2024.
Visa Type (depends on purpose):
- Tourism → Visa-free (up to 90 days)
- Business Meetings → Visa-free (up to 90 days)
- Study → Student Visa required
- Work → Work Visa required
- Long-Term Stay/Residence → Appropriate Turkish visa or residence permit required
Entry Requirements:
- Valid U.S. passport
- Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival date
- Proof of onward or return travel (may be requested)
- Proof of accommodation and sufficient funds for the stay (may be requested by border officials)
- Compliance with the 90 days within 180 days rule
Important Note:
Visa-free entry applies only to ordinary U.S. passport holders travelling for tourism or short-term business purposes. Travelers intending to work, study, or stay longer than 90 days must obtain the appropriate visa before travel. Official, diplomatic, and service passport holders may be subject to different requirements.
